The styling of the first gen Hyundai Veloster hot hatch is certainly not to everybody’s liking but the automaker has seen enough potential in the product to work on a completely revamped second generation model.
Slated to be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January, 2019 Hyundai Veloster sports a completely different design language compared to its predecessor but the idiosyncratic four-door configuration (two on the right, one on the left and hatch lid) has been retained.
The crisp hexagonal front grille and sleek headlamps as seen on the modern Hyundais brighten up things upfront while the merger of tight-fitting roofline and the tapering rear fascia is much less awkward this time. The combined result is a much better looking car which is sure to appeal to a wider audience base than before.
The interior is not visible in the spyshots but we expect a lot of parts sharing with the successful Elantra. This particular variant with black contrast roof likely houses a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine which is expected to produce well in the excess of 200 hp in its updated avatar.
Hyundai would be completing the 2019 Veloster lineup with a N performance variant sometime in the foreseeable future. The Veloster N is expected to feature a 2.0-litre petrol engine. If the European i30 N is anything to go by, the likes of Ford Focus ST should be worried.
2019 Hyundai Veloster would continue to have the US and Europe as its primary markets. Chances of it setting foot in Africa is not very likely as of now.
