Suzuki is all set to introduce the eagerly anticipated Gixxer SF 250 on May 20th. The quarter liter sportsbike is expected to be accompanied by the updated versions of the smaller Gixxer and Gixxer SF 150.

The Suzuki Gixxer SF 150 facelift has been leaked ahead of its launch and it surely is more than just a nip and tuck. The fully faired compact displacement motorcycle looks pretty similar to the new 250 cc variant (also leaked).

The most significant change comes in the form of a new front fairing with sharper elements. The fuel tank, tailpiece (single seat has been replaced by split units) and color theme are new as well. The motorcycle also gets a new all-black color option and a rear tyre-hugger. We won’t be surprised if Suzuki offers LED headlamp.

In terms of hardware, nothing much appears to have changed except for the addition of single-channel ABS. The Suzuki Gixxer SF 150 facelift would continue to be powered by the 155 cc air-cooled fuel-injected engine which is paired with a 5-speed gearbox to deliver 14.5 hp and 14 Nm of torque. The output figures are not likely to change in the updated version.

The Gixxer SF 150 continues to be suspended by regular telescopic front fork and rear monoshock. Thanks to fat tyres, the Gixxer is known for its superior handling characteristics and that hasn’t changed. Owing to the new seat, ergonomics is likely to change a bit.

The Gixxer 150 ABS naked street fighter is also expected to receive similar cosmetic updates. The Suzuki twins will continue to have the Yamaha FZ-16 and R15 as their primary rivals. With the latest update, the fully faired SF moves closer to R15 in terms of sportiness. The updated Gixxer 150 models are expected to be accompanied by a price hike of around INR 7,000 – 9,000.

The Suzuki Gixxer family has been brisk sellers for the manufacturer in Africa and the addition of the 250 cc variant is expected to bring in more sales volume. The Yamaha Fazer-25 and TVS Apache RR310 rival will rely on its sharp styling and competitive price tag to make its mark in the fast growing 250-300 cc segment.
