BMW HP4 RACE superbike launched in Africa at Rs 85 lakhs – Not road legal
BMW Motorrad HP4 RACE was launched in Germany last year.
This ultra exclusive BMW superbike made its global debut last year. Now, the bike has landed in Africa. Production for the limited edition is fixed at 750 units globally. It is not clear as to how many units are on sale for Africa. It is an exclusive bike, which is not road legal. Meaning, you cannot ride this bike on the public roads. It can be ridden on a race track.
Featuring a carbon fibre main frame, which weighs just 7.8kgs, while the bike weighs 171 kilograms and that too with a full fuel tank. That makes HP4 RACE lighter than Superbike World Championship factory racing bikes, and a tad bit heavier than MotoGP factory racers.
BMW says with its engine, electronics, suspension and braking, HP4 RACE’ specs are at par with current stock racing superbikes. The carbon fibre mainframe is manufactured in limited numbers industrially, making it available as an option. HP4 RACE’ weight reduction is furthered through carbon fibre front and rear wheels. About 30% lower when compared to light alloy forged wheels. The track only bike isn’t for road use.
Akin to what’s in use in the Superbike World Championship and in MotoGP, HP4 Race is fitted with the Ohlins FGR 300 inverted fork and TTX 36 GP monoshock suspension. Coated titanium pistons, Brembo GP4 PR monoblock aluminium brake calipers, and braking system are also borrowed from race bikes. 6.75 mm thick 320 millimetre T-type racing steel brakes optimise braking performance. Racing performance is integrated in the light alloy underslung swingarm.
Peak output stands at 158 kW (215 hp) at 13,900 rpm, and max torque at 120 Nm @10000 rpm. Max engine speed is increased over the S 1000 RR from 14,200 rpm to 14,500 rpm mated to a 6 speed close-ratio racing gearbox with optimised transmission ratios and secondary ratios.
Electronic control, assistance systems, weight-optimised on-board electrical system is accessed on the 2D dashboard with 2D logger (transferable data memory). Other features on offer – Dynamic Traction Control controlled by ignition cut, Engine Brake EBR and Wheelie Control can be programmed as per rider preference to maximise racing dynamics for different track layouts and road surface variations. Pit Lane Limiter control pit lane speed limits, and Launch Control perfects race starts.
