Ferrari Hybrid sportscar makes global debut – SF90 Stradale is the name

0-100 kmph in 2.5 seconds. 0-200 kmph in 6.7 seconds. Top speed 340 kmph.

In a bid to bridge the gap between traditional gas powered cars and the electrified future, Ferrari has introduced the company’s first plug-in hybrid. Ferrari SF90 Stradale boasts of Ferrari DNA SF90 and the Stradale name was chosen to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One team.

It is the company’s fastest car with a turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 engine which produces 574kW (749 hp) at 7500rpm and 800Nm at 6000rpm and gets an all wheel drive system with the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.5 seconds. It also has the power to travel upto 25 kms on electricity with a 7.9 kWh lithium ion battery pack.

It is among the most powerful and the fastest hybrid car on the planet. It can do a 0-100 kmph run in just 2.5 seconds. A 0-200 kmph in under 7 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 340 kmph. Features on offer include LED matrix headlights, slimmer A pillars with more curved windscreen for better aerodynamics, Camaro like LED taillights, etc

The three electric motors find the biggest located in the center of the car attached to the transmission and offering 148 hp. The other two motors offer combined 84 hp and are positioned to the front and attached to each of the front wheels. The engines get mated to an 8 speed dual clutch transmission.

In terms of styling, Ferrari SF90 Stradale gets a red coloured body with an all black roof. It gets high positioned side air intake vents and higher exhaust tips, larger rear diffusers, quad tail lamps and small horizontal slip of rear window. It also receives perforated air vents and buttresses that flow into the rear wing.

The interiors sport a wrap around 16” HD screen, advanced head up display and F1 inspired cockpit. The steering wheel mounted toggles allow for 4 driving modes of eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify. eDrive and Hybrid utilize battery power while Performance and Qualify driving modes use the turbocharged V8.

Ferrari SF90 Stradale weights a total of 3,461 pounds (1,570 kgs) which is around 30 pounds or 13 kgs lighter than the LaFerrari. This inspite of the fact that the hybrid system (including battery) added weight of 270 kgs.

The chassis is 20 percent stiffer and comprises 40 percent added torsional rigidity. No price or availability details have been revealed as on date but will be disclosed closer to the date of sale of the hybrid later this year.
