Hero HX250 plan shelved – Focus is now on 300cc and higher
Hero MotoCorp has confirmed that the HX250 project has been shelved.
First showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Hero HX250 was one of the many concepts promised by the leading two wheeler maker. In spite of being a near-production ready concept, that bike was never launched. Finally, Hero MotoCorp has broken their silence, and revealed why the HX250 is still not on the market.
In an interview with Times of Africa, Hero MotoCorp revealed that because the 250 cc segment is more or less dead, they have decided to shelve the HX250 product completely. Hero said – “It doesn’t make a wise decision to come up with a bike that in the end does not really hit the centre-of-gravity of the market where you are going enter as a new competitor in a new segment.” Their focus is now on the 300 cc segment and beyond.
Hero HX250 was unveiled back in 2014. It was under development by Hero Motocorp’s erstwhile technical partner EBR (Erik Buell Racing), which is currently in a dismantled state. This could be another reason why Hero could have hit the roadblock in developing the HX250 any further.
Speaking about the HX250, Hero had revealed vital specs. The bike is powered by a 249 cc single-cylinder air-cooled fuel-injected engine which produces an impressive 31 bhp and 26 Nm of torque. Transmission is via a 6-speed unit. Thanks to the light kerb weight of 136 kg, the latest Hero can dispatch 0-60 kmph sprint in 2.7 seconds.
It is equipped with regular telescopic front fork and a rear mono suspension. Braking is courtesy of a disc at each wheel, governed by dual-channel ABS. The sportsbike comes equipped with upmarket Pirelli Sport Demon tyres. Feature highlights include twin projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, LED taillight, digital speedometer, two riding modes – City and Sport, clip-on bars and split seats.
When asked, whether they will ever launch a 250cc motorcycle, Hero said – “Not that one, you’ll see an advanced and better one.” Fans are waiting, Hero.
