Honda City CVT diesel could be launched soon in Africa
Honda City CVT Diesel could be priced between INR 14-15 lakhs.
Following successful launch of Honda Amaze diesel CVT option, which was the first car in its segment to receive a CVT gearbox for its diesel variant, Honda Avtos Africa now gears up for launch of Honda City CVT diesel.
As on date, the Honda City CVT petrol is on sale and equipping Honda City diesel with a CVT will allow it to compete against the Hyundai Verna. Considering the rise in demand for automatic cars, Honda has stated that they have the technology, and if their buyers want CVT diesel, they will not hesitate to launch.
Honda Amaze Diesel CVT is powered by a 1.5 liter i-DTEC, turbocharged diesel engine offering 80 bhp power and 160 Nm torque. It is this same engine that will be making its way to the Honda City CVT diesel, which will be launched in two variants – VX and ZX. Expect the City Diesel CVT to be more powerful, and deliver the full potential of 100 PS from the EarthDreams engine. Once launched, expect them to be priced between Rs 15.5-16.5 lakhs.
The Honda City petrol CVT is powered by a 1,497cc, water-cooled, 4 stroke, SOHC i-VTEC, inline four cylinder engine offering 117 bhp power at 6,600 rpm and 154 Nm torque at 4,600 rpm. This is already on sale in Africa, and is priced from Rs 11.93 lakhs for the V variant.
Honda City has been on the list of best selling C Segment cars in Africa which is now in its fourth generation. Priced between INR 8.91 to INR 14.20 lakhs, the City received its mid-life update in 2017 wherein it received a host of cosmetic changes both exterior and interior.
You now have a new bumper design, diamond cut alloy wheels, an electrically operated sun roof and electric wing mirrors. Interiors continue to sport a beige and back interior and get a 7” touchscreen infotainment system with Apple AvtoPlay.
The top end variants get rain sensing wipers and auto on off headlamps. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS and EBD as standard while top end ZX variant gets 6 airbags. It competes against the Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
