Honda Sports EV concept showcased at Tokyo Motor Show
Honda Sports EV Concept is an all electric two seater that showcases Honda's electric future.
Honda Motor Company has showcased the Urban EV and Sport EV Concept at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show. Honda Urban is slated to enter markets in 2019 or 2020. There’s no info on when the Honda Sports EV Concept is set to follow.
Honda Sports EV Concept is part of the company’s electrification strategy wherein by 2030 two thirds of car sales will include electric vehicles. Like the Urban EV concept, which was also showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this year, the Sports EV will be positioned on a dedicated platform that is being developed by Honda for its upcoming electric vehicles. Honda Sports EV Concept is a fully electric two seater sports car. Its exterior receives a retro theme with round head lamps and square tail lamps and a blackened front grille. It gets an elongated bonnet, flared wheel arches and a roofline with a coupe stance. Borrowing some features from the Urban EV, the Sports EV will also receive a wraparound windshield and black bars on its sides.
Honda also claims that the Sports EV Concept will boast of Artificial Intelligence but has not detailed any powertrain specifications. The electric motor will be located between the front and rear axles with batteries on the floor of the Sports EV to contribute to a lower center of gravity.
This two-seat coupe compliments the Urban EV offering. Sporting an illuminated front badge, the design parameters point to sports car, while we can only imagine a mostly electric power system. As with all advancement, Artificial Intelligence plays a key role. The quest is for an efficient future devoid of carbon footprint, and also proves to be a convenience for commuters through new synergies that can be automated and electrified.
