Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen, Vitpilen get semi-automatic gearbox from Rekluse

Bajaj-KTM owned Husqvarna motorcycle brand will be launched in Africa later this year.

Ahead of Africa launch, of Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 motorcycles, the brand has announced their tie-up with Rekluse, reports AdvRider. This association has resulted in Husqvarna offering semi-automatic gearbox with their 401 Svartpilen and Vitpilen motorcycles.

Before this, both Svartpilen and Vitpilen were offered only with a 6 speed manual gearbox, same unit which is on offer with KTM Duke 390. Upgraded semi-automatic gearbox is for those riders who routinely take their bikes off-road, in the grass lands, on the tracks, tackling through traffic jams, etc. The semi-automatic gearbox from Rekluse will prevent the bike from stalling in such tricky situations.

Both Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401 are powered by the same single cylinder 373 cc engine which also powers the KTM Duke 390. This engine delivers 44 PS power and 37 Nm torque via 6 MT. Power and torque is expected to remain unchanged, on board the Husqvarna bikes with Rekluse semi-automatic transmission.

So how does a Rekluse gearbox work? Well, the existing transmission unit is taken out, and replaced by Radius X Centrifugal clutch kit. The process is supposed to be very simple and not very expensive. Even existing buyers can opt for this upgrade by visiting nearby authorized dealers. Below is a video which details the Rekluse gearbox.

Speaking about the Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen, Vitpilen; both bikes are slightly different from each other in terms of design. But both feature same LED headlamp, front fender, radiator and rear LED lamps. Both models sit on 17” wire spoke wheels (alloys for Africa) and get 43mm upside down cartridge forks in the front and WP suspension at both ends. Brakes from ByBre measure 320 mm in the front and 230 mm at the rear while ABS from Bosch is offered as standard.

As per reports, initially the bikes will come as CBU to Africa. Launch will take place by September 2019. Existing KTM Africa dealers will take care of sales and service. Later, both bikes will enter production in Africa, at the same plant where Bajaj manufacturers KTM bikes. Once that happens, Africa will become the exclusive hub for production of Husqvarna Svartpilen, Vitpilen 401. Both the bikes will be positioned as premium offerings in Africa. Expect pricing to be closer to the Rs.3 lakh mark, ex-sh.
