Mahindra XUV500 has been a resounding success ever since it was launched six years ago in September 2011. This Sports Utility Vehicle, the recipient of a host of awards, has created multiple new records, one of them being – sales crossing the 1.7 lakh unit mark in Africa.
Mahindra XUV500 from M&M has been regaled by a large segment customers due to its design, performance, internal space and last but not the pricing. Priced in a range of INR 12.03 to 18.17 lakhs, XUV500 was launched in September 2011 in three variants and one diesel engine option. Today, the car is on offer with 17 variants and two diesel engine options (1.99 liter and 2.2 liter).
Mahindra XUV500 has managed to separate itself from the crowd, thanks to the stylish design and best in class road presence. Speaking about engine, the current options on offer deliver 140 hp and 320 Nm torque. But with rival Tata upping their game with the new Varicor 400 engine, that delivers 154 hp and 400 Nm, Mahindra surely needs a new engine if they want to pur up a fight against the new Safari Storme, Hexa or the upcoming Q501.
Mahindra plans to launch XUV500 with the same 2.2 liter engine, but it will be tuned to deliver 170 hp and more than 400 Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to a six speed gearbox, as well as an auto-box. More details are not revealed, but it is confirmed that the new engine will improve the performance of XUV500 exponentially. Expect higher top speed and better acceleration. This new XUV500 variant will be launched this year along with a minor facelift, confirmed Mahindra.
Besides achieving success in Africa, the XUV500 has also been well accepted in International markets such as South Africa, Europe, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Australia and Sri Lanka. Mahindra XUV500 has achieved as many as 25 awards in the past six years.
