It was in 2003 when the Karizma was first launched. Ever since it has been company's flagship.

The Hero Karizma R and ZMR have been discontinued from the company line-up. These were the flagship Hero motorcycles, which were first launched back in 2003 as the Hero Honda Karizma. Earlier this year, the Karizma and all its variants were discontinued.

It is not clear as to why the bikes were discontinued, but one of them was poor sales. With more and more players launching new age, advanced motorcycles in the segment (Pulsar NS 200, KTM Duke 200, Apache 200, KTM RC 200 and so on), Hero was still selling a bike which was essentially the same bike which was first launched in 2003.

But, Hero is on a revival path. As per a new report, Hero is working on developing a new generation Karizma motorcycle. It will be powered by a 200 cc engine which also powers the upcoming Xtreme 200. Not only the new gen Karizma will be made here, it will also be exported to markets across the globe as Hero aims to establish itself as a global leader.

Expect the new gen Hero Karizma to be more feature rich, lighter, and tuned to deliver much better performance than ever before. The precious Karizma’s engine was a 223 cc air-cooled engine which employs a carburetor to produce 19.2 bhp and 19.35 Nm of torque. The Karizma ZMR benefits form electronic fuel injection system and an oil-cooler to generate 20 bhp and 19.7 Nm of torque. This was mated to a 5 speed MT. Expect the power output figures to improve, and instead of a 5 MT, a 6 MT is going to be implemented.

Over the next two years, there will be a range of new launches one can expect from Hero. Sadly, because of this new strategy, the HX250R project has been shelved.
