New Mercedes A-Class hatchback could be launched in Africa this year

2019 Mercedes A-Class will be the first of 8 new compact models slated for launch by the end of 2020.

Earlier this month at an event in Amsterdam, Mercedes Benz unveiled the new 2019 A-Class. Scheduled to go on display at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the hatchback sports some design changes both where its exterior design and interior makeup is concerned. First countries to get the new A Class will be in Europe, after which it will be launched in other parts of the world.

2019 Mercedes A-Class compact hatchback gets a sharper design at the front and rear. Head and tail lamps also get a new design with slim flat headlamps as seen on the Mercedes Concept A Sedan and slim two section tail lamps.

These newly designed headlamps can include the option of Multibeam LED technology with adaptive high beam assist besides individual city and motorway lighting functions and cornering effect. The new A-Class also gets a sloping bonnet, an AMG inspired front grille and dimensions too have been increased. Length is increased by 120mm to 4,419mm, width increases by 16mm to 1,796mm and height has been extended by 2mm to 1,440mm thus relating to increased interior space.

Interiors spell more comfort and luxury in the new Mercedes A-Class with the wing shaped main body of the dashboard extending seamlessly across its front end. This dashboard is divided into two 3D horizontal sections. Ambient lighting in a choice of 64 colors, 5 round air vents, dual display setup with a 10.25” fully digital cluster and 10.25” central display are also among its new and improved features. An improved camera and radar system allows the driver a view upto 500 meters ahead.

Mercedes A-Class will be offered in 3 engine options the A200 will be powered by an M 282 1.33 liter, 4 cylinder petrol engine. The A250 will get an M 260, 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder petrol engine and the A 180d will be powered by an OM 608 diesel engine. The A200 engine will be mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox while the A250 and 180d get a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox.

Production of the 2019 Mercedes A-Class will take place at 5 plants starting with the Rastatt plant in Germany after which it will be produced in Hungary, Finland, Mexico and China. Africa launch of the new A Class is expected to take place later this year, just ahead of the Diwali season.
