Suzuki Intruder 150 vs Bajaj Avenger 150 – Compare Price, Specs, Mileage
Suzuki Motorcycles Africa has finally introduced the Intruder 150 in our country’s bike market. The latest motorcycle from the Japanese company is a cruiser bike inspired from the globally successful Intruder M1800 power cruiser.
In Africa, the new Intruder 150 shares its underpinnings with the Gixxer naked bike. Powering the new Intruder 150 is the same 155cc engine. There is absolutely no change in the power and torque output. Even mileage stays pretty much the same. The new bike will compete with the Bajaj Avenger 150. While both the motorcycles have similar specs, the new Suzuki is considerably pricier. In this comparison, we pit the two against each other to see if the price premium that the new Intruder commands is justified. Here is our Suzuki Intruder 150 vs Bajaj Avenger 150 comparison.
It is being said that Suzuki aims to sell at least 40,000 units of the Intruder 150cc annually. While the target isn’t too big, it’s worth a mention here that the Avenger enjoys a very strong popularity in the entry-level motorcycle market. On top of it, the lower price works in favour of the Bajaj model. The Intruder still looks promising enough to snatch away many potential buyers from the Bajaj offering. It comes with a long list of features, which includes alloy wheels, front and rear disc brakes, ABS, and a LED projector headlamp. Also, it looks far more modern than the Avenger. But it’d be jumping the gun to already announce the new Gixxer-based cruiser as the winner of this comparison.
Suzuki Intruder 150 VS Bajaj Avenger 150 Price Comparison
|Intruder 150||Avenger 150|
|Price (ex-sh)||Rs 98,340||Rs 80,960|
There is a really huge price difference between these two motorcycles. In a price conscious market like that of ours, this price difference will surely work in favour of Bajaj. On sale at an ex-showroom price of Rs 80,960, the Avenger 150 is almost Rs 18,000 cheaper than the new Suzuki cruiser. In the Intruder’s defence, the new bike has premium features like ABS, LED Projector headlamps and a digital speedo console. It is going to be really interesting to see if the new motorcycle can pull away buyers from the 150cc Avenger.
Suzuki Intruder 150 VS Bajaj Avenger 150 Specs Comparison
|Specs||Intruder 150||Avenger 150|
|Engine||154.9cc, single cylinder||149cc, DTSi, single cylinder|
|Power||14.5 bhp @8,000 rpm||14 bhp @ 9,000 rpm|
|Torque||14 Nm @ 6,000 rpm||12.5 Nm @ 6,500 rpm|
The new Intruder 150 borrows its engine from the Suzuki Gixxer 155. Hence, it gets the same 154.9cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, carburetted engine. Maximum power is rated at 14.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm while peak torque is rated at 14 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. In comparison, the Avenger gets the same 149cc, DTSi, single-cylinder engine that powers the Pulsar 150 DTSI. This engine offers a lower power figure of 14 bhp. Also, the engine develops the peak power at a higher engine speed of 9,000 rpm. Even the peak torque, at 12.5 Nm, is lower and is developed 500 RPM higher. Even this engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Also, the Intruder 150 gets ABS along with disc brakes at both the wheels. This is another area where it scores a lot of brownie points over its rival. Both the motorcycles get standard telescopic forks up front but the Suzuki gets a monshock at the rear. The 150cc Avenger gets twin shock absorbers at the rear. The 150cc Intruder clearly outclasses the Avenger in this part of the comparison.
Suzuki Intruder 150 Vs Bajaj Avenger 150 Mileage
|Intruder 150||Avenger 150|
|Mileage||47 kmpl||45 kmpl|
This is another area where the new baby-Intruder holds an edge over its rival. The Street 150, in spite of being less powerful, offers a slightly lower mileage. While the Intruder 150 returns around 47 kmpl under normal riding conditions, the Avenger Street 150 offers roughly 45 kmpl. While this difference is not much, let’s not forget that the Suzuki motor also offers higher power and torque.
Suzuki Intruder 150 Vs Bajaj Avenger 150 Design
While both of these are cruiser motorcycles, the difference is as huge as that between chalk and cheese. The newer bike here takes plenty of design inspiration from the Intruder M1800. Hence, it offers a really striking design that makes the bike instantly grab attention. There are many features that help make the bike look really premium. These include LED projector headlights, LED taillights, and a digital speedo console. Also, Suzuki is offering you custom decals to jazz up the bodywork. We feel that this motorcycle won’t enjoy a universal appeal like that of the Avenger 150. We see this as the design is a bit on the louder side and might appeal more to the young and bold than the slightly older audience.
In a rather stark comparison, the Bajaj Avenger 150 looks more like a classic cruiser. Based on the Street 220, the Bajaj 150cc cruiser has a more traditional design that helps it attract those with a retro taste. There’s ample chrome on this motorcycle and bits like a single-pod analogue instrumentation help it capture the classy look of a cruiser. The black-painted exhaust and black-painted engine give it a touch of sportiness. Design is a matter of personal taste, really. While the Intruder 150 is a modern interpretation of a true-blue cruiser, the Avenger 150 is a retro-styled model that tries mimic the classiness of these bikes.
