Tata Harrier JTP sport variant in the making? Spotted on test in Bangalore
Upcoming Tata Harrier is being tested by Jayem Automotives, the folks who are also working on the Tiago JTP, Tigor JTP versions. Hat tip to automotive enthusiast Ankit Ponnappa from 4x4 Africa Facebook group for sharing these spy shots.
Tata Harrier SUV was recently spied on a race track performing hot laps by folks at Autocar Africa. That car was on test at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. Now, yet another Tata Harrier test mule has been spied in Bangalore wearing a TN37 number plate.
TN37 is for Coimbatore, where Jayem Automotive is based. Jayem Automotive is the performance car partner of Tata Motors who is currently working on Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP variants. Both these performance cars were showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and will be launched soon. Is Jayem also working on a similar model for Harrier – Tata Harrier JTP?
If at all such a variant is in the making, expect it to deliver more power from the same 2.0 liter diesel engine. Suspension too will be tuned for sport and ground clearance will also be lowered. Exteriors and interiors will get sporty updates.
Showcased as the H5X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo, the new Tata Harrier is a new SUV based on a Land Rover derived platform. It will be the new flagship Tata SUV, which will be launched later this year or early next year. Speaking about design, the production version does not seem to have deviated much in terms of exterior design and interior features. This has also been confirmed by Pratap Bose, Head of Design, Tata Motors that 85% of Harrier SUV design will stay true to the H5X concept.
Leaked interior photos reveal a large floating display for infotainment system, black soft touch material on the dashboard in a black and silver color scheme, contoured front seats, an instrument panel with conventional dials with monotone back lighting and twin semi circular digital display units for fuel gauge and distance to empty meter. Tata Harrier also borrows some interior design elements from the Nexon. It receive door lock and unlock feature, trunk unlock and headlamp on buttons.
Tata Harrier will be positioned above the Hexa and will be the company’s new flagship model. It will enter production at the company plant in Pune, Maharashtra and will come in powered by a 2.0 liter diesel engine offering 140 PS power and mated to a 6 speed MT and AT. It will rival the Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass and is slated to be priced between Rs 13-16 lakhs.
