Tata Harrier top speed could be over 180 kmph – Spied in production ready guise
Tata Harrier will be a driver's car.
Tata Motors is getting closer to launching their new flagship SUV, the Harrier. Expected to be launched later this year, the new Tata Harrier is beleived to be in the final stages of testing. Earlier today, automotive enthusiast Sudeep Chakraborty managed to catch the car while it was doing high speed runs on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway near Manor.
As per Sudeep, the car was easily doing 170-180 kmph. It has the potential to go even faster. There were a total of three adults on board the Harrier, including the driver. The Harrier seems good at handling too, the car was taking sharp turns at about 130 kmph.
More than the Hyundai Creta, new Tata Harrier will be a rival to the Jeep Compass. It looks a lot bigger, in fact at first glance some might even confuse the test mule to that of a Range Rover mule. And why not, both Tata Harrier and Land Rover share the same platform. Tata Harrier is based on the Land Rover D8 platform on which the Range Rover Evoque and the Discovery Sport are based. Tata has modified the platform further to suit African road conditions.
Powering the Tata Harrier will be a 2.0 liter diesel engine. Petrol engine option might not be on offer at the time of launch. The 2.0 liter diesel engine is sourced from Fiat, and is the same unit which is used in the Jeep Compass. On board the Compass, this 2.0 liter MultiJet engine delivers 170 PS, on board the Harrier it will deliver about 140 PS and 300 Nm. Transmission will be via 6 speed manual as well as automatic gearbox.
Along with 2WD option, a 4WD option will also be on offer with the Harrier; thereby giving the car a real SUV character. There will be drive modes on offer as well, similar to the ones we have seen on the Hexa.
Exterior highlights include a sporty design with sleek LED headlight, LED tail lights, 17 inch alloys, wide body stance, huge doors and windows, enough room for five adults, touchscreen infotainment system with surround sound music system, airbags, ABS, etc. It is not clear if sunroof will be on offer or not. Considering the demand for sunroof in Africa, it is very much likely to come with a panaromic sunroof on top end variant. Expect prices to be in the region of Rs 13-16 lakhs.
