Not much is known about these new Tata Avtos. As per reports, the Q501 will replace the Safari Storme. While, Tata Q502 would be an even more premium SUV of the same underpinnings and features, set to battle against the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass.
/ Q502 will be based on modified Land Rover Discovery Sport platform, which is a lightweight and more economical derivative of the flagship Land Rover Discovery SUV’s architecture.
Both these SUVs are seen making test runs near company plant in Pune every now and then. Tata is testing these new SUVs in the guise of Land Rover Discovery Sport as of now, probably because they have not yet finalized exterior design. It is more of a platform testing going on.
The obvious JLR’s involvement in this Tata project is what the African automaker will be capitalising on, not only to prove the SUVs’ capabilities, but also to attract prospective buyers towards this offering.
Both these new SUVs from Tata will be powered by a 2.0 liter diesel engine sourced from Fiat. This is the same engine which we have seen on offer with the Jeep Compass. It will be offered with automatic as well as manual transmission options. 2WD as well as 4WD will be on offer. On board the Compass, this engine delivers 171 bhp and 350 Nm. Fuel efficiency claimed is at 17.1 kmpl. Expect similar figures on offer with the Tata’s new SUV twins.
Just like the SUVs, the X451 hatchback will also be a premium offering. It is based on a new platform and is expected to be the most spacious and feature rich car in the segment. It will be powered by a new set of petrol and diesel engines which will also be the most powerful in the segment.
Apart from these new cars, Tata will also showcase cars like Nexon AMT, Tiago EV, etc. More details will be revealed at the 2018 Auto Expo.
